In response to many requests over the years for more art at the York Theatre, we are showing special screenings on the second Wednesday of every month. Join us at the York Theatre for the Art @ York presentation of Ixcanul shown on Wednesday, January 11 at 1:00 & 7:00 PM. General Admission. Come early for preshow entertainment at 12:30 PM on our Barton Theatre organ with Dave Rhodes, Tivoli Theatre house organist.
We need your help to make this successful by emailing, blogging and telling your friends to join us for these special films.
We have formed advisory panel: Susan Erdakos, Carol Reisenbuckler, Karen Exiner and Sally Soto who help with the selection of films. Your feedback and suggestions are important to us, so please send them along to firstname.lastname@example.org.
The brilliant debut by Guatemalan filmmaker Jayro Bustamante is a mesmerizing fusion of fact and fable, a dreamlike depiction of the daily lives of Kaqchikel speaking Mayans on a coffee plantation at the base of an active volcano. Immersing us in its characters' customs and beliefs, Ixcanul chronicles with unblinking realism, a disappearing tradition and a disappearing people.
