Citing increasing popularity of its Elmhurst theater as reason behind an expansion, Classic Cinemas is adding a tenth screen to the York Theatre.
Mark Mazrimas, marketing manager for the theater chain said the screen is being constructed at the rear of the building at 150 N. York Road.
Over the years, he said the theater has gone from having 5 to 7 to 9 and now 10 screens. The company also has renovated the lobby of the theater that was constructed in 1924 and added stadium seating.
The new screen will bring the number of screens at its 13 locations to 100. Mazrimas said the theater is an anchor for the city’s downtown business district, and attendance is growing.
“We draw from Elmhurst and from outside Elmhurst as well," he said. "It's a nice downtown with nice shops and good restaurant."The screen will have stadium seating and is expected to open by mid-November.
