Oak Park, IL – Downtown Oak Park honored Willis Johnson, president of Classic Cinemas, at the 2011 Annual Meeting held on May 10, 2011, upon his retirement as member of the Board and Merchant Advisory Committee Chairman. Johnson, the proprietor of Oak Park’s Lake Theatre, was a founding member of Downtown Oak Park and served on the Board from 1988-1991, and from 2002-2011. The Lake Theatre, which celebrated its 75th Anniversary in April 2011, played a major part in the revitalization of downtown Oak Park.
Downtown Oak Park Executive Director Pat Zubak says of Johnson, “His contributions go beyond helping found the organization. He helps out in large ways, bringing a lot to the table in terms of goal setting and strategies, and helps out in small ways too – he had our downtown kiosk refurbished in the Classic Cinemas workshop. And, when we were having problems with the upkeep of the downtown viaduct, he just took it upon himself to have his staff paint and repair it." Johnson was honored for his dedication and faithful service to the Board of Directors of Downtown Oak Park, for his investment in the district, his leadership and involvement on behalf of the Board, and his contributions to the community of Oak Park.
"He does things, large and small, for our town, and we are forever grateful. No other single person contributes what Willis contributes," emphasizes Zubak.
