Return to the Old West Film Series is hosted by the Lindo Theatre in partnership with the Stephenson County Museum and Highland Community College. It is designed to offer movie-goers the experience of viewing time-honored American Film classics along with the opportunity to discuss various aspects of each film. Admission is $5 per movie or $20 for the series.
The Searchers: Ethan Edwards, an embittered veteran, returns to Texas after the Civil War and discovers that Comanche Indians have killed his family and kidnapped his niece. Along with Martin Pawley, who was adopted by the Edwardses after his own parents were killed by Comanches years earlier, Ethan sets out to find his niece, Debbie. The movie's title refers to the duo's five year search for the young woman, and their struggle to rescue her once she is adopted by the tribe and married to Chief Scar.
The films in the series have been selected with the assistance of Ed Finch the Executive Director for the Freeport Historical Museum and Alan Wenzel the Speech and Communications Instructor for Highland Community College. They will introduce each movie and lead a discussion afterward. Movie-goers are encouraged to stay after the movie to participate in this exchange.
