Lindo, Tivoli Theatres
Honored with Annual Awards

Downers Grove, IL – Classic Cinemas’ Tivoli and Lindo Theatres once again have been recognized with awards voted on by readers of the West Suburban Living and theJournal Standard.

The readers of West Suburban Living chose more than 85 suburban superlatives, and the Tivoli Theatre, at 5021 Highland Avenue in downtown Downers Grove, took home the title of “Best Movie Theatre 2014” in the western suburbs! The residents of the western suburbs gave the distinguished honor of “Best of the West” to the Tivoli for the 7th year running!

Meanwhile readers of the Journal Standard voted Classic Cinemas’ Lindo Theatre, located at 115 South Chicago Avenue in Freeport, as “Best Family Entertainment 2014,” the 18th consecutive year the theatrehas received the award.

When the Lindo Theatre opened on April 17, 1922, there was only one screen, a stage for vaudeville acts and a Bennet pipe organ! Ninety-three years later, the Lindo Theatre retains all of its charm with considerable technological updating. Lindo Theatre has nine screens and all auditoriums are equipped with Enhanced 4K Digital Projection and Datastat Sound.

“We’re honored to once again be named Best of the Region once again,” says General Manager Jami Spelman. “We hope to remain Freeport’s favorite hometown theatre.”

The Tivoli Theatre was the very first theatre operated by Classic Cinemas (circa 1978). In 1928, the Tivoli opened as an iconic area landmark and was one of the first theatres in the country to play “the talkies.” Astonishingly, today, many features of the movie house still reflect its historic French Renaissance design. The 1,012-seat theatre offers a state-of-the-art movie experience with movies presented in the latest 4k Digital Projection and Sound equipment and Digital 3-D. Throughout the year, the Tivoli features twice monthly art and/or foreign films for After Hours Film Society, as well as benefits for several local schools and organizations.

“We are thrilled to again be a Best of the West recipient,” says General Manager Linda Smith. “We are proud of the recognition.”
