The Woodstock Theatre presents the 11th Annual Woodstock International Film Festival, featuring five Academy Award Nominated Best Foreign Films. The series kicks off with Monsieur Lazhar on Wednesday, September 18 at 4:45 & 7:00 p.m.
An Algerian immigrant living in Montreal fills a post as a substitute middle school instructor. The teacher he replaces committed suicide, hanging herself in the classroom, where she was found by two students. Closed out of the classroom while a psychologist conducts sessions with the students, Lazhar tells them some gentle truths and assures them it was not their fault. Lazhar struggles with his own demons relating to his life in Algeria and challenges with the language as French is spoken differently in Canada than in Algeria. This series runs through Sunday, September 22 and will also feature Kon-Tiki, Amour, No and A Royal Affair.
Tickets for all five films may be purchased in advance for $30. Single tickets for each feature are $7.50.
